Coming back from my Chicago-adventure last year I decided to try to hold on to some ideas and see if I could find a way to realize them in my ‘normal’ life. One of my intentions was to volunteer somewhere and perhaps give some support to an idea or project.
After a bit of thinking I asked Anna Gunn, the organizer of the PPF, whom I met two years ago in Porto, if she could use a pair of hands at the the Porto Photofest in 2019. Anna never hesitated a second ;-).

So I found myself in Porto in mid October as part of the PPF team. And as this festival is a festival made by photographers for photographers I was asked to exhibit some of my work - I decided to bring some pinholes.

Those four days were four brilliantly beautiful, funny, interesting and totally exhausting days - and nights 😉 An absolute highlight of this event was Sara Lando, who offered workshops and talks. Sara is a real firework of ideas and creativity, so just watching her doing her thing is a lot of fun in itself - and her workshops are packed with practical tips and very interesting thoughts ... simply breathtaking and amazing.

I particularly loved the Mixed Media Workshop 'Human Layers' because there photography and collages, prints and texts come together to create something new - this process appeals very much to me. 
But the flash workshop with David Hobby and the portrait workshop with Sara were super inspiring - even if both are not my favorite topics - I rarely work with artificial light and although I do not do any commercial portrait photography I do have some personal projects that include portraits – so I simply soaked up the freely given tips from David and Sara. In fact – if you ever think of using a flash – I strongly recommend you visit David’s website!

As always, I enjoyed exchanging thoughts and ideas with other photographers and artists - unfortunately I do not have that back home as often as I would like to - and that was a big part of those four days. My teammates were young photographers from Brazil, Argentina and Portugal and we talked photography nonstop!

I have to admit that after the four days I was shattered 😉 but it was a great event and I had a  wonderful time with really amazing people. 

Als ich letztes Jahr von meinem Chicago-Abenteuer zurückkam, beschloss ich, an einigen Ideen festzuhalten und zu versuchen, einen Weg zu finden, sie in meinem „normalen“ Leben umzusetzen.
Eine meiner Absichten war es, mich irgendwo als Freiwillige Helferin zu melden und vielleicht eine Idee oder ein Projekt so zu unterstützen. Nach einigem Überlegen fragte ich Anna McGunn, die Organisatorin der PPF, die ich vor zwei Jahren in Porto kennengelernt hatte, ob sie beim Porto Photofest 2019 ein Paar Hände gebrauchen könne. Anna zögerte keine Sekunde ;-).

So fand ich mich Mitte Oktober in Porto als Teil des PPF-Teams wieder. Und da das ein Festival von Fotografen für Fotografen ist, wurde ich auch gebeten, einige Arbeiten mitzubringen. Ich habe mich für ein paar Pinholes entschieden.

Diese vier Tage waren vier wunderschöne, lustige, interessante und total anstrengende Tage - und Nächte.
Ein absoluter Höhepunkt dieser Veranstaltung war Sara Lando, die Workshops und Vorträge anbot. Sara ist ein wahres Feuerwerk an Ideen und Kreativität. Es macht also schon viel Spaß, ihr zuzuschauen - und ihre Workshops stecken voller praktischer Tipps und Gedanken ... einfach atemberaubend und erstaunlich. Besonders gut gefallen hat mir der Mixed Media Workshop 'Human Layers', weil dort Fotografie und Collagen, Drucke und Texte zusammenkommen, um etwas Neues zu schaffen - dieser Prozess spricht mich sehr an.

Aber auch der Blitz-Workshop mit David Hobby und der Porträt-Workshop mit Sara waren super inspirierend - auch wenn beide Gebiete nicht zu meinen Lieblingsthemen gehören. Ich arbeite selten mit künstlichem Licht und obwohl ich keine kommerzielle Porträtfotografie mache, habe ich doch auch einige persönliche Projekte, in denn es um Porträts geht - also habe ich die üppig fließenden Tipps von David und Sara einfach aufgesaugt. Wenn Ihr jemals darüber nachdenken solltet, mit Blitz zu fotografieren, lege ich Euch den Besuch auf David’s Webseite sehr stark ans Herz!

Wie immer habe ich gerne Gedanken und Ideen mit anderen FotografInnen und KünstlerInnen ausgetauscht - leider habe ich das zuhause nicht so oft, wie ich möchte - und das war ein großer Bestandteil dieser vier Tage. Meine TeamkollegInnen waren junge FotografInnen aus Brasilien, Argentinien und Portugal und wir haben praktisch pausenlos übers Fotografieren geredet

Ich muss zugeben, dass ich nach den vier Tagen komplett geschafft war. Aber es war ein großartiges Fest und ich hatte eine wundervolle Zeit mit wirklich großartigen Menschen.
